Bono: Capitalist@Work !

Congrats from C@W to Bono, who will be tipped into billionairedom when Facebook floats today.

At a certain point, I just felt, you know, God is not looking for alms, God is looking for action.”  That was one of his.

Just think of the Good Works he will be able to do now !  Fair play to the lad.

The Question Time audience and opposition parties were pretty convinced that the Sunday Times rich list could just pay off all the UK's debt. A 75% wealth tax was talked about with excitement.

Does mr Bono live in the UK?

Ahhh...Thought not.

There has been a lot of talk on the financial blogosphere about this crisis being "The end of Capitalism".

Well, this story from FT Alphaville suggests it might be the opposite - the end of socialism.

So it seems that as the people that have the means to buy medicines are refusing to give the money to the state to allow people without money to buy the medicines (i.e. socialism), the pharamacies are going direct to the people with the money to sell their wares.

Socialism, it seems, is a rather expensive business that requires the wealth to be generated first, before it can be afforded. Take that wealth away and all you are left with is capitalism.

I don't suppose it makes much of a difference to Mr Bono's life.

But think of how many wells and TB jabs that wealth could pay for ... in Britain.

Are we certain that this wealth will be put to use in the benefit of society? I have the distinct impression that Bono's "Good Works" only extend as far as exhorting us to give our money to charitable causes - has anyone seen evidence of his own commitment, and what this represent as a proportion of worth?

Cynics are rarely disappointed.

Anon is right. The economist had a similar article a few weeks back.
The cost of 'free' seems to be rising fast.

Would you rather own Facebook or 1/4 of Exxon Mobil? Facebook or BMW and Daimler?

I wish I had some cash right now in my cityindex account ready to short this when it blows its top.

YOUNG PEOPLE DON'T MESS ABOUT ON THE INTERNET IN ORDER TO SPEND MONEY!

Looks like Mr Bono will lose $850 million in the next few weeks then.

Bono - isn't he one of those that has an objection to paying any tax? I presume his pompous pronoucements are merely aimed at distracting attention from his unwillingness to contribute to society.

The devil looks after his own.
