Miliband's legacy

This is the system that was set up by Ed Miliband.  He may well have directly kept Labour out of government for ten more years, by opening up the leadership process without having thought it through.  You won't catch me crying over the decline of the Labour party, but I can't help wondering how bad it might have been if this fool had been let anywhere near the great offices of state.  He never did seem to take on board (at least in public) the irony of his campaign against the energy market which he presided over in office, so one can only wonder what a wreck he might have made of foreign policy or the criminal law.

I have yet to meet a lefty who thinks anything through properly and their track record in government is one of a multitude of dire consequences caused by their ideology, policies and practices.

So what's holding the Tories back then ?

The BBC? Quangos? The EU? Or the Good Chaps running the show?

Kev - Or who?

Funny to see Andy Burnham, the bookies favourite just a few weeks ago, now instructing his team to try have the election annulled. Claiming that many votes are from the Tories who are rigging the election.

If Comrade Corbyn was to win by a handful of votes, then this claim would have merit. But he's looking like winning by tens of thousands of votes.

Burnham has been his usual floppy self. I
Labour rated him highly. Seemingly based on the fact he said he didn't like Murdoch, went to Hillsborough, and managed to not admit to his NHS privatisation and its failings. And he wasn't from London.

His campaign has been hopeless. He's been hopeless.

And highlights the joy if you are a Tory MP.

1. The enemy are going to elect the unelectable Corbyn as leader. This isn't just going to harm their prospects its going to harm their party.

2. If for some reason they don't now elect Corbyn the backlash will result in an actual civil war among Labour rank and file and the unions with catastrophic and probably fatal consequences for the labour party.

3. if neither of those things happen the labour leader will be Andy Burnham. A man who on the evidence would be even more of a liability than Ed Miliband was.

Cameron will have faced cretins since Blair. And even the Blair he faced was a very wounded one.

We always said on here he was a capable, if not outstanding general. But he did have the favour of the Gods.

I can't imagine that Labour members are stupid enough to elect the MidStaffs Murderer or the purse-lipped Balls doxy and expenses fiddler. That leaves the Blairite and Corvid. Corvid it is then. Balls must be cursing his luck while anyone interested chortles.

The dam between us and the third world has just burst on the Tory watch - and Cameron had a large part to play in it.

A Corbyn led Labour could win back power:

A) Because the Tories are immigrating a lot more Labour supporters

B) Because Tory supporters will continue to emigrate apace

C) Because - in five years of broken promises and continued mass immigration - UKIP supporters will not be duped into voting Tory again

D) Because the property owning, stake-holding, Tory voting class is diminishing among the young

E) Because, in five years, things will be so bad that no-one will care if Labour get in

Cameron is not lucky. I don't believe that he wanted a Tory majority, because there is no one to blame as our civilisation begins to fall apart at a speed not yet seen.

There was a cat on the BR pay roll. A top mouser at Yeoville Pen Mill station - until someone ran it over in a class 50. (About the best loco to be run over in my view. Excellent reliability, driving position and with double-glazed windows.)

Mr. Eyes,

Thank you - that is far more legible. And yes, what you say regarding Miliband Minor as PM is true; he would have been hopeless, as will any of the four Labour candidates. All make Cameron seem statesman-like. Which he isn't.

There used to be a lot of mice on the Fleet Street payrolls, pre-Wapping.

Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse etc. All drawing union-rate salaries. (As Bron Waugh once said, for Wapping, Murdoch deserves a dukedom: and for everything else, the eternal pit.)

Ed Miliband may have enacted this change, but the proponents were the Blairite right wing of the party, when the unions mainly opposed the change.

Blair said of the changes: "It is a long overdue reform that ... was something I should have done myself. It puts individual people in touch with the party and is a great way of showing how Labour can reconnect with the people of Britain."

Progress, the Lord Sainsbury funded Blairite pressure group, wrote in an editorial: "Such a change will be hard fought, but the potential prize is the mass membership party which New Labour promised but failed to deliver."

Ironic that a change pushed by Labour rightists seems to have create a mass membership that wants a leftist leadership - coupled with the fact the other 3 candidates have not impressed.
