That the civil service can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory so consistently, as for example it has done in negotiations with the EU, is a wonder to behold. The OFT have published a 'market study' non mains fuel and are boasting that 'the biggest' supplier of kerosene to homes has agreed not to change the price the consumer pays between accepting the order and delivery. Press release here:

http://www.oft.gov.uk/news-and-updates/press/2012/64-12

This means that trading standards will now go around telling SME traders it is illegal for them not to sell kerosene to consumers on a forward contract. The market study also points out EU environmental law has changed the specification for domestic kerosene (less sulphur) so that it is now illegal to delivery jet kerosene to consumers to use in their homes. This means there is no liquid financial/futures market for domestic kerosene.

So, do you reckon, is this likely to:

a) shaft small businesses that sell kerosene to consumers, who can't take the risk of selling kerosene they haven't already purchased?

b) help cause domestic fuel shortages in cold winters?

If so, is this what the new CMA is going to be all about?Steven_Lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05029437876479574883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32841798.post-12113071478792803302012-07-31T17:21:05.333+01:002012-07-31T17:21:05.333+01:00culling of the runts, eh, BB ? say that carefully...culling of the runts, eh, BB ? say that carefully after a few jars

dearieme - they don't even know they need to ask, it's that bad

Jan - actually, yes, because (a) there's lots of gas and (b) GlobalRecession2

Mr R - a most interesting event (& even more than interesting if you are one of the unlucky 400 million), we shall take a look

(PS a couple more 'wind' responses on the earlier thread)Nick Drewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13670594203660051701noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32841798.post-41599660951199368842012-07-31T14:57:36.705+01:002012-07-31T14:57:36.705+01:00India could easily be tipped into civil war with t...India could easily be tipped into civil war with the Islamic insurgency from Pakistan.

Having 50% of the country without power creates the conditions for revolutionAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32841798.post-6866964879476399962012-07-31T14:21:20.779+01:002012-07-31T14:21:20.779+01:00A touch reminiscent of politics in India, where to...A touch reminiscent of politics in India, where today they have near a tenth of the world's population without leccy today? According to the WSJ journal since 2006, China has added roughly six times more power than India to its national grid each year. India has immense potential, but is blowing it seemingly due to the political system mainly. Read somewhere that over half of Chinese senior politicians/communists have an engineering/science background. How many of ours?
