The lunch table is a major factor in policy making. Almost all major policy decisions in Russia were made over a wet lunch, when the talk was high.
ReplyDeletePutin's Russia is a bit worse than dear old blighty but similar: the top businessmen, the politicians and the crooks are all interchangeable, and frequently so. New bums, old farts. And especially don't interfere in the Moscow police pastime of beating up people in the badly lit back streets, rather than apprehending the crooks/etc who sail past in their limos.
