David Dimbleby presents Question Time from London.
On the panel are Ed 'biomass' Davey MP, secretary of state for energy and climate change;
Dame Tessa 'my husband deals with all the tricky money things..I never look at them' Jowell MP, Labour's former minister for the Olympics;
Boris 'I..I..I..I...Claudius...Johnson, the Conservative mayor of London;
comedian {?} Russell ' not as clever as he thinks he is' Brand; and
Daily Mail columnist 'Mad' Melanie Phillips.
1. NHS regulators-Bank regulators..energy regulators..What exactly are they regulating? The temperature of the building?
2. Fire brigade cuts. I don't know what the impact would be but London has the 4th largest fire service by number of personnel and vehicles and stations and is the 24th largest city by population or 18th by area.
And is a city largely without high rise..? Paris, has the 3rd largest fire brigade. And Paris is comparitively tiny.
3. When did you stop strangling your wife? {I loathe this story..none of us know the facts. Saatchi's story is not credible. But to deduce systemic domestic violence from him trying to stop his missus 'making a scene' in a restaurant ? Speculation, guesses and waffle. }
4.Talk to the Taliban 'coz the Blank Hand ain't listening. {bonus point if anyone can remember their history and recall who the Black Hand were and why they are currently relevant.}
5. London rough sleepers rise by 13%..Which also looks like a highly dubious statistic. Labour blames cuts, recession , lack of housing...etc . no mention of alcohol, drugs, mental illness and people like Bill Quango MP who once misplaced his 2nd home after a long 'sitting' at the House and had to sleep in Soho Square.
kynon has had 3 points added for persistence.
Dimbletie - purple and green.

oohh quick!
ReplyDelete1)Firemen,
2)Taliban,
3)Teachers & pupil sex
4)GM Crops?
Tie black and yellow!
1st?
whoo hoo!
ReplyDeleteI don't actually know what I am woo hooing about...
ReplyDeleteThe last couple of days on the FTSE have (temporarily I hope) cost me dear!
I really don't want my new year prediction of a 1000 point fall coming true just now, unfortunately there are only 350 points left to go :(
Evenin' all.
ReplyDeleteDamn toughie this week - but, on paper, a rather good line-up but therein lies the problem!
1) CQC - what dead patients? There ain't no dead patients here, oh noes, none at all!
2) RBS & Lloyds - criminality & sell off.
3) Heathrow - it is London and Boris shoehorned it into his Pro-Celeb tennis thang @ Queens
4) Syria - you go Mel, good gal. Even though she scares me a bit!
5) GM maybe or G8 being a waste of time or drugs policy or community tension or Olympic Legacy......err...hmmm..... GM foods is the punt. I heard Paterson on today this morning stating that we need GM foods because there are kids going blind in SE Asia!! Err...WTF? Why don't they grow it then - mong.
The Tie of Le Dimble - a crimson affair with triangles.
Good luck mutants!
Pheeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww {splash}
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should have kept schtumn?
Rewarded for persistence? Crikey.
ReplyDeleteDimbletie: Black & pink.
1) CQC is bound to come up. "This is an ex-patient!" "No he's not, he's just resting his eyes!" etc...
2) Total ineffectuality of the supposed regulators/regulatory authorities: energy, banking, health & medical, information commissioner (e.g. vs Google, also pertinent with the NSA gubbins) - what can be done to break the cosy relationship between the industries, the regulators, and the gubmint?
3) Is Cameron turning into a lame duck, or highlighting the UK's dwindling influence/importance, with his completely failed attempt to get the G8 leaders to back his "wishlist" of banking reforms?
4) It Ain't Half Getting Thin, Mum! - next round of Army layoffs kicks in as The Mekon (sorry, the foetus wonder, sorry, William Hague) is wittering on about arming Syrian rebels, thus potentially getting the UK dragged into ANOTHER civil war situation which we have neither the will nor the means to cope with - have they never heard of joined-up thinking?
I would normally stick to 4, but I suspect a bonus 5th will creep in...
5) Something about unemployed women getting knocked up so they can get benefits from the state...yes, of course, it's the imminent spawning of HRH Duke & Duchess of Cambridge's pseudo-Hanoverian demon child. Opportunity for Boris to make some sort of patriotic bluster & probably drop a clanger at the same time.
Done. Tonight I will be preparing myself to disappear into the countryside over the weekend...first thing on the packing list: DEET.
(odd WV as well: tifisk messengers - if only more fisking happened to the messengers of the gubmint...)
Dimbletie: grey as the Thames
ReplyDelete1. Is jaw-jaw better than war-war in Afghanistan?
2. Are the CQC failings because caring is out of fashion in the NHS?
3. Online snooping and porn blocking: is more Govt involvement in the Net a good thing?
4. Jail reckless bankers, or just hold on to their bonuses for 10 years?
5. Is it time for a cat as mayor of London?
I'd like to see them lock Russell and Mel in a glass box together during the show. Now that would be entertainment.
dimbletie - horizontal stripes like a low-resolution old TV
ReplyDelete1) can't a (wealthy) man play strangulation games with his annoying wife without people taking pictures?
2) CQC and NHS and keeping quiet about Names & general gagging
3) AND WHAT ABOUT THE BEEB'S OWN GAGGING SCANDAL, eh? and will they allow a question on that ..?
OK that's a wasted guess. Ploughing on
4) would we gag if we ate GM food?
5) Does Boris want to be PM - they'll get it in somehow
I had lunch with that Melanie once. She paid. She's as blind as a bat, and personally very modest (not politically, of course)
Hi all.
ReplyDelete1) Syria: Why is Dave so mad keen to involve the UK?
2) NHS cover-ups: Should all those involved be sacked?
3) Is Ken Clarke right about the consequences of leaving the EU?
4) With UK energy prices set to be double Germany's by 2020, how can our companies compete?
5) GM crops: should the UK supply the "tech" (whatever that means) to third world countries?
Dimbletie = pink.
1. Syria and what are we even contemplating getting involved for?
ReplyDelete2. why are rural and coastal schools so poor? OR - Have London schools dramatically improved once schools were allowed to fail?
3. AND >. should the banks be sold off now? right away?
4.Lambeth labour's scare posters - "children die in school fire"
5. Are climate change skeptics really loonies, fruitcakes and terrorists?
Right....
ReplyDeleteDimby tie; red, to annoy boris and mel.
1) Would things be better if Boris was prime minister, hidden in an airpot/HS2 question thingy.
2) G8/Syria, everyone is against intervention surely. Putin, the ex commie, is a hero. israel is evil, just to annoy Mel
3) Banks, sell off is capitalistic so what should we do
4)Afghanisatan - well, well alls well that ends well.
I always thought that Russell Brand was maybe as clever as he put on but when he made the move to the US 6+ years ago he became a typical centre-left celeb.
ReplyDeleteI dunno if that's actually how he always was or if it's because the US is so polarised that he had to pick a side to be successful there.
Evening all
ReplyDeleteThey must have seen the poor ratings for the last 2 shows and rolled out the celebs, Davey and Jowells.
1. Tax, Tax, Tax. Should London be able to raise / lower its own tax rates like Scotland.
2. Banks, Banks, Banks. Should they be sold or given away. Since they are pups anyway, I think they should be given to the public as we can't have another mis-selling scandal.
3. Boris, Boris, Boris. Which of DC's many qualities does he most admire and which will he emulate when he leads the Opposition in 2015, 2014, this year (if there is an early election).
Ed v Boris? No match really.
4. Nigella. Has Satchi actually achieved a greater degree of national loathing than Bankers and Politicians.
5. Nigella. Can divorce ever pay enough? And what are her favourite paintings
Tie: Blue
Taff
Evenin’ all. What a great panel as long as Russell doesn’t dominate it. He might storm out….here’s hoping!
ReplyDeleteHis agenda is drugs, sex and whistle blowers. Best leave out any love child this evening. He’ll get all those in.
1. Let’s be just a little bit playful, eh? …..Argh…ok, ok.. Domestic violence.
2. CQC …. (starved of funds under Labour? Difficult to believe.) Name, shame, vilify. Publish and be damned.
3. Taxes, banks and bonuses. Bye, bye bankers… (Teach kids about tax; eat half of their ice cream.)
4. Let Rome burn …closing the fire stations in historic buildings.
5. Porn on the web. I could spread my bets and say Syrian porn on the web, but I don’t think there is much of that. There could be though.
Tie – I’ll stick with bright green. Eventually I’ll get it right.
First question in advance: Should we jail reckless bankers and which bankers would the panel wish to be prosecuted?
ReplyDeleteNext question: Are UK drug laws working? _ should have guessed really.. with RB on the panel.
Got a bit boring so update - Dimbletie is a cracker. Mint green with pink flying pigs. One of his best.
Q3: With MPs set to vote on arming Syrian rebels, would such action fuel further bloodshed?
Q4: With UK average house prices rising and wages falling in real terms, should younger people get used to a lifetime of renting?
4 qs and strange ones at that.
House prices?
No strangling and nothing about NHS death scandal cover-up. NHS is an absolubte QT staple.
You know, if I didn't refuse to believe in conspiracy theories...

Winner Cu + dtp with 7.
Winner's prize is to state the length of time a banker's bonus must be held in trust until released?
Zero - well that's a first!
ReplyDeleteThat'll teach me to jump in with the populist stories from the BBC front page. Next time I'll look at the panel.
Banker's bonus' only to be paid in CDO structured derivatives with 5 year junior and ten year senior tranches and a cap and collar on potential divened waterfal at 1% and 2% repsectively per annum.
ReplyDeleteNot making any friends at Canary Wharf with that one CU
ReplyDeleteShould also have said it was a 3 threesome .
