Question time : Refugee edition

David Dimbleby presents the topical debate from Norwich. On the panel are Conservative cabinet minister Ken Clarke MP, shadow attorney general Emily Thornberry MP, Liberal Democrat peer Lord Oakeshott, comedian and feminist activist Kate Smurthwaite, and director general of the Institute of Economic Affairs Mark Littlewood.
4 out of 5 in favour of terrorists retaining their passports I think.

  Scoring.
2 pt for a correct guess of the colour or pattern of Dimbleby's tie.{before 10pm} 2 pt for an accurate spot for each of the question asked 2 pt for being the sole entrant to correctly predict a question asked
1 arbitrary point for any partially correct questions, witty phrases, spotting the soundbite, joke, tweet or posting in the comments first.
And the league table will be winner = 1pt
Everyone else - Zero.

Twitter- its often better than the actual show. And its jammed full of  earnest political studies university students and their mickey taking History and English taking friends

BQ Thinks

1. Economic good news pouring in. Is the recession over?

2. Labour want a 50p tax rate. Something they say they had before. Which they did. For 1.6% of their time in office.

3. Syrian refugees. A victory for nick Clegg? A defeat for Cameron?

4. Immigration debate. Should we retain control of our own law? And if not, Lord Oaksh*t, why have a parliament at all? Certainly why have two parliaments..hmmm?

5. Probably not 5 but maybe changes to school hours that is a great idea that will never happen.

  1. Emily Thornberry, again? Crikey - she'd tell how many mistakes you made if you tidied up her house & cooked her dinner! Strewth!

Dimbletie - a russet affair, autumnal and unsoggy.

    1) 50p & 40p tax - how dare those uncaring Tories not tax people until their pips squeek?

    2) Floods, glorious floods - are the environment agency inept for not acting quicker? 12 months ago Owen Patterson was a contender and no-one ever thought about checking whether he could, yer know - speak in sentences! Another star has faded.

    3) Smoking in cars - it's tantemount to child abuse I tells yee, child abuse or maybe open a window to inhale noxious fumes from other cars - err...

    4) Can we trust the unemployment figures when so many people are going part time etc?

    5) Immigration and Syria - isn't there a moral duty?

Was Ken on with Thornberry before?

  2. may have misread your post I thought for a moment it referred to Oakeshott as the comedian. However I'n still not sure it is not a correct description

2 Judges being over ruled by politicians. Have the wiggies had this coming for their ever increasing stupid rulings?
3 Floods! Is this global warming?Or just a lack of planning and personnel.
4 50p tax rate. Why not copy the french 75% for football millionaires?
5 Phone hacking. Now the Mirror are involved should the judges just forget the whole thing?

  6. Dimbletie; canary yellow

    1. 50p tax rate; since the bankers are swimming in bonus cash, why aren't we grabbing it all?
    2. What's the Environment Agency's job if not to prevent flooding, and why hasn't anyone been fired?
    3. The insanity of term time holiday fines.
    4. Smoking banned in cars, what's the next ban?
    5. Should we be condoning Russia's anti-gay attitude by going to Sochi? It's not like we're going to win anything...

Who the heck is Kate Smurthwaite? You're pulling our legs, aren't you BQ?

    1. Flooding. Doesn't the failure of the environment agency show that cuts have gone too far?
    2. 50p tax. What's not to like. Aren't we all in this together?
    3. Who's right: Carney or Wee Eck?
    4. Syrian refugees: C'mon Dave! Even Nigel Farage wants 'em.

  9. Tie: Baroque but with romantic melodies

    1. Syrian 'fugees.
    2. Floods - who'e to blame? tree-rippin' famers or non-dredgin' EA?
    3. Gay Winter Olympics, Ukraine oppression.
    4. Kids car smoking ban, will save the NHS £[made up number] billions.
    5. 50p marginal tax rate. Faced by younger people with student debts. And that's ignoring another 20% VAT on what they spend. And these millionaires whine?

  10. Evenin’ all

    1. 50% tax. Are they paying their fair share or being paid more than their fair share? Don’t worry, it is only temporary according to Balls Up.

    2. There has to be a justice question for brown suede shoes. In fact you could het immigration, crime and the EU all in one as what they propose to deport criminals could be illegal under EU law. Go for it, boys.

    3. Kiddies and choice. Do they choose to be born? Do they choose Silk Cut or Marlboro Lights? My car is my home.

    4. Floods. Who shall we blame? Farmers, agencies, property developers. Just don’t blame the weather.

    5. Is the recovery a proper recovery? Financial services has caught a dose of regulation. Yad di da.

Dimbletie: A striking turquoise on a dark background. Drip shapes.

Ah, Clarkey. Only one question this week:

    1) When is just ONE of the lazy, supine, witless hacks, who work for what is still laughingly termed the "mainstream media", going to point out that Dave's EU "reform/renegotiation/referendum" "pledge/promise" is a cynical lie told with the deliberate intent of deceiving naive voters who genuinely care about whether the UK continues to exist as an independent nation-state?

  12. T) Black with Yellow/Orange!

    1) The Taxing Taxes Question what's fair (neither) what takes more?

    2) Should we have even more laws to control holiday prices during school holidays?

    3) NHS revolving doors. Should the money be reclaimed from the "devious" recipients?

    4) Do we really need web filters? Won't they just be used to collect more illegal info each time access is refused? and where does "access denied" end?

    5) Dimby will fit something in as a quickie at the end... so: Would you sign the US petition to deport Mr. drunken-Lambo-driving-junkie Bieber ?

Too late for a Dimbletie I suppose? anyway I'll go for blue and grey stripes.

This is the 'peasants are revolting edition' courtesy of the BBC europhile greenies.

    1. The peasants are revolting about a little bit of water. Haven't they heard that the E.A. is there to prohibit drainage maintenance so that wading birds can rule the roost (so to speak)? Anyway it's global warming guv innit?

    2. The peasants are revolting about a few immigrants. Oh horrors this means they are attacking the EU's free movement policy. They should be shot on sight right away, says Ken.

    3. The peasants are revolting for an EU referendum - we've scotched that says Ken. UKIP are a bunch of fruitcakes and loonies? Did I really say that says Ken.

    4. The peasants are revolting in the Ukraine - they want to join the EU - these peasants are sensible fellows says Ken. Should we send in our aircraft carriers?

    5. Will the global economy shudder to halt due to revolting BRICS leading to a peasants' revolt? Sorry, I'm quite comfortably off says Ken.

  14. Dimbletie - Pink and lilac and black.

First question – Will the revival of the 50p tax rate lead to the wealthiest individuals leaving the UK?

q2– If you have chosen to live below sea level in Somerset, is it reasonable to assume you will be flooded?

Q3 Should foreign-born criminals be able to have their citizenship revoked?

Q4 Is the UK government doing enough to help Syrian refugees?

Q5: Is banning smoking in cars with children present an unnecessary infringement of personal freedom

Not a bad show. Thornberry was her usual dreadful self. And the comedian was less funny than Clarke. Anyway..

DTp - Thornton face Thornberry was her dreadful self again. A 'b' team squad player that Labour insist is A material. She is the Adel Taarabt of politics. - 8

    Hello Barry. No guesses?

    Malcolm - 8

    ND - 4

    DJK - 8

    MW - 8

    hopper - 6 {Kate is a feminist comedienne and was actually even less amusing than that sounds. She had a very standup habit of rushing all her words together without pause. probably an anti heckler trick. I expect she needs it.}

    BE - 3

    Measured 8

KT - 1 question? Love the tie idea though. - 2

    Timbo - 3

    Budgie - 4 {and it was a bit of a greenie edition. The audience applauded 'more green energy' AND 'lower fuel bills' as if the two were possible.}

Winner - lots on 8. An easy QT this week. Winner was DTp as the 'smokin' abuse' was portrayed that way.

DTP prize is to suggest a job that Emily Thornberry might actually be able to do.

  16. Through committee we reckon she'd make a good Hattie Jaques (sp) as a nurse matron type person in a Carry On Commissioning film.

    Cheers Bill

  17. OK DP. Suggestion accepted. If only she had that smouldering sexuality that Hattie had.
