Meanwhile, In The Real World ... $99.50

While Westminster and Edinburgh dance to the SNP's childish jig, here's a graph that will be making Snake-Oil Salmond a little leery.

Yep, $100 has been breached.  Could be some resistance here of course, but maybe not enough for those who look to their oil revenues for political underpinning.

Salmond ?  Yes, but he's a silly sideshow.  It's Putin for whom $99 is a serious, serious nightmare:  clean underpants, please, for the gentleman in the Kremlin.

What will he do now ?

  1. Great stuff, although does it reflect a generalised slowdown in global trade?

  2. BE - Sort of, although it more reflects the drop of imports to the USA and increase in supply just when demand is adjusting downwards.

e.g. new aeroplanesa re 30% more fuel efficient - its a huge jump. Ships too. Plus lots of kit is moving to gas as the prospect of cheap shale looms.

  3. What will he do now? Continue lying, continue behaving like the petty little demagogue that he is.

    That's my bet, fwiw.

I'm all for Scottish independence, as it is the only way the West Lothian question can or will be resolved. Note well that during all the talk the past couple of days about devo max for the Scots if they vote to stay in the Union, there has been nothing (zero, zilch, nada) about the removal of powers from Scottish MPs in Westminster.

    Sod that.

  4. Clean underpants? No, Putin won't panic.
Plenty of scope for increasing taxes, or raising revenue by appropriation of assets...

Much the same thing, except appropriation only affects the rich, so is arguably fairer!

Totally agree. At first I was pretty much ambivalent about Scotland leaving the Union - more wanting them to stay. However, as the muppets in Westminster have promised them heaven and earth if they'd only stay, and from the Anti-English rhetoric coming from north of the border, I'm pretty much in the "P*ss Off then" camp. Mostly because - as you say - it's the only way the West Lothian question will ever be resolved. (However, Call me Dave dragging the Tories to the Left pretty much means we may never have a Labour government again in England, but we'll stiff be stuck with three socialist parties).

This is something that should be brought up every time. An independent Scotland gives him a guaranteed majority government. Keeping Scotland hands the next Government to Red Ed.

    Is the guy mad?

  7. "Is the guy mad?"

How do you answer that? "No; he's a socialist." Or "Yes; he's a socialist."

The problem we now have is that all three main parties are so alike that they actively don't want a majority. They've seen that having a coalition (or at least not having a majority) makes it far easier to do very unpopular things if you always play the victim to the other two parties.
