A feel good factor for the UK but not the Government

Good news on both unemployment today for the UK and also for wages.

For the first time in 5 years, wages have grown above inflation - albeit almost imperceptibly.

Another 155,000 jobs have been created too and the stark reality is that most jobs created in the past year are in the professional services and business services sector, with science and engineering close behind. These are no Mcjobs, much to the dismay of the Labour party peddling the self-employed and part-time worker mantra.

SO, when will this good news feed through to the benefit of the Government? It won't do necessarily of course, we saw in 1997 that a strong Tory growth economy did not matter - 18 years of the same Government were enough along with Tony Blair's schtick.

But really, in 2014, it is quite surprising that the Government is not ahead in the polls against such weak opposition. For the many faults, if this was an appraisal you'd be quite encouraged at the progress made, even if you thought things could be better.

So what will it take? It is hard to know, after all the macro picture is deteriorating for next year so things are unlikely to get better and those promised tax cuts are out of the question really...we will find out in the Half year budget statement shortly.

I think you are clutcing at straws if a wage rise which is "imperceptable" is good news - a but like not having one of your legs chopped off being reason to rejoice ...

155,000? forgive me if I don't open the champagne.

A fair point CU. But I still believe come the performance review in May, the outcome will still be .. Thanks for your effort..but we don't think you are quite suitable for the post.

And that's why we have to decided to let you go....

The Tory and LibDem clowns have doubled the national debt, a worse performance even than Brown. Of course, Balls and Miliband wanted even more debt. Sorry, CU, I don't see any good news.

next may, in that fine late spring drizzle we seem to do so well,

as you walk towards the polling station, you see a poster in the window of a house.

it says 'vote labour'

a picture of Ed Milliband pops into your head.

you wont be voting labour.

no comment on his competence, or lack of it or on cameron's.

all the tories need to do is remind everyone who the next pm might be if they dont vote con, and the next chancellor would be one of the people who did most to get us in this sh** (expect more on that over the next 6 months).

you are in a shop trying on a pair of trousers, daughter looks at you and says are you seriously going to buy that?

and you dont.

embarassment is even more powerful than fear.

which is why a con majority at 5:1 is worth a few quid.

The 'feelgood' factor doesn't seem to have got through to the actual electorate, which is pretty much where you want it if you'd like them to vote for you. Had the coalition actually bothered with a year or two of genuine austerity and trimming the fat they may have found a lot more in the piggy bank 18 months ago to begin the pre-election bribery of the taxpayer.

It's a pretty sad place to be when the Tories/Labour are pinning their hopes on the fact Labour/Tories have a prize prick in charge.

Said before, we'll end up with a Traffic Light coalition of Labour/LibDems/Greens, and it'll be a godawful disaster.

Although it'll be funny if Labour get obliterated in Scotland and we see a Tory/SNP coalition (the SNP were once mocked as the Tartan Tories), not least for how quickly Cameron develops amnesia over his English Votes for English Matters, and just what price the SNP would exact for their complete compliance in voting on issues not affecting Scotland.

It's the perception that the Tories are a party of bar stewards with duck houses and moats......ah hang on the reality is that a lot of them are.

These are things that you could not survive without. They include, of course, food, water and shelter. Even here, these should be at a minimum. Thanks.
