Having spent a day with focus groups.... IF.....

IF you can remember Margaret Thatcher And recall the miners strike and the Poll Tax, If you can recall Tony Blair and the Iraq Invasion, And know of David Cameron or Gordon Brown; If you can read a newspaper or tune a radio, Or watch a television, read a blog or have a discourse with friends, Or simply look at your own fortunes,and are they improved? And do you feel better or worse each day: If you can dream - what you would like things to be; If you can think - Is this what was promised to me? If you can understand the difference between Triumph and Disaster, Right and Left, Free Market or State control, And consider which one you believe has the upper hand today; If you can bear to hear the truth that's being spoken Knowing that words are twisted by SpAds to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, all you hold dear, And are your lifetimes constructions being undermined? If you can make one heap of all your knowledge And think of all the things you were expecting, And consider if those promises were delivered Or have you experienced loss or disappointment; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To focus on the events of the last twenty five years, And so reach a conclusion on how it has gone And think to you self "Hold On!" If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, ' Or reason with Kings - and the common man, if neither foes nor loving friends can persuade you, If all men count with you, but none too much; If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds' worth of deep deep reflection, And still, at the end, - concede - "I am still unsure" Then You'll be a Floating Voter, my son! {And should not be allowed to vote at all}
