As we come nearer to the election, a poll?

Massive increase in the state pay-roll.

There should really be an "all of them" option. They're all pernicious and nasty.

Such a cornucopia of choices! They all illustrate the incompetence, sleaze, lies and control mania of Labour.

I have to say all of the above but the worst has to be continued membership of the EU closely followed by the enormous Brown Debt (which will take 40 years to pay off) and McDoom's belated jumping on the AGW hoax bandwagon (notice how AGW is falling to pieces as soon as it was strenuously supported by Brown?).

The problem here is not to locate something which Labour have cocked up, but to identify something which they haven't managed to damage, disgrace, sully or mismanage. Of all of their actions, meddling with the known-effective Bank of England regulation model is perhaps the daftest, closely followed by permitting the growth of a huge client-class of welfare recipients who are good for nothing but breeding and claiming dole.

This honestly didn't have to happen, not if they'd stuck to the roots of the Labour Movement. Labour was supposed to be the party of the working man; it was not supposed to be the party of the rich-but-thick champagne socialist, nor of the greedy money-grabbing bureaucracy, nor of the mind-melting benefits trap. The Welfare State was supposed to be a safety net, which the workers paid into as a form of insurance.

This along with pernicious and blindly-followed doctrine, combined with economic incompetence on a truly grand scale (and why should this be? Socialists don't have to be blithering idiots; they could surely employ good advisors and follow this advice) is what has made Labour so utterly abysmal as rulers. Petty political points-scoring, mass immigration and the pointless and universally-ignored fox hunting ban are merely icing on the cake.

Tax credits.

Nice to see your poll questions show you have fallen for the spin too - the ID Card is just the front end of the National Identity Register - the focus on the cards themselves continually ignores this ... in all their talk about sweeping away labours database state Ding Dave and his boys never mention doing away with the register - I wonder why ...

Their obsession with inspection and regulation of relationships between parents, their children and adults.

Tha handgun ban - the effect of the bill was a massive increase in handgun offences.

Can't get it more wrong than that can you?

Definitely regulating the credit funded consumption bubble into existence.

Without that the others would not have been affordable.

You should have included selling off half of our gold at around $275/oz.

My personal hate, which occured a few minutes after the awful Brown became Chancellor, was his mean and spiteful attack on the classic car movement when he abolished the rolling tax exemption on classic cars.

I've hated the b****** with a passion ever since, which is a pity really because over the last 13 years he's done far, far worse things, and my hate for him was already used up.

It was hard trying to restrict the misdemeanors to just 10! My list was longer in the first version but thought the most egregious ones were covered.

All the abvoe ones are more than valid though. Selling gold, what a plum; trying to move parenting to the state; handgun bana nd endless criminal justice bills!

Argh. it's terrible. How can lefties possibly argue Thatcher was wrose, she did nothing like this amount of damage and she started with a broken country not a fixed one.

Worst policy: Attempting to win the general election in 1997.

After all, if they hadn't...

Control freakery.

I voted for financial regulation one but I don't think the option really covers it.

It's the toxic combination of the policies THEN writing to the FSA saying 'oi stop regulating so hard!' THEN giving the nod to the city AND using CPI to measure inflation all the whilst saying 'nono,no housing bubble!'

Voted other. Fiscal incontinence without public sector reform.

I also think they missed a golden opportunity to raise the underclass out of their situation - a relatively long period of growth that we are unlikely to see again anytime soon.

I'm surprised by the high vote for immigration out of all the choices.

As far as I can see, most of it has been from the Eastern edge of Europe, so not really Brown's fault.

And how much worse would it have been without the cheap labour?

But so many choices, maybe it's inevitable that people pick the first one

Taxing the dividend income of pension funds comes pretty high up the list.
Why should McSnot and all his cronies realise the untold damage this has caused when they can look forward to over-generous final salary schemes paid for by mugs like us!

Trick question - they're all bad.

Voted "other", as you left out Red Dawn's delightful IR35 legislation, or "make it impossible for small IT businesses to compete with our pals at Capita and EDS"

Perhaps categories would have given us all more scope? Foreign policy, economic policy, monetary policy, civil rights, constitution, sheer bloody-mindedness, ....

I ticked Iraq War, but the hand-wringing over all the other horrors.

Chronic underfunding of Defence while conducting a series of substantial military operations on a peacetime budget.

Unforgivable.

Other - ALL of the above...

CU, infantile leftists think motivations are more important than outcomes. That's why the Evil Thatch is hated so much. They think left = virtuous, right = evil, therefore irrespective of outcomes Thatcher must be vilified.

They lost the economic argument so they moved to Frankfurt school Marxism and the Green movement to try change our culture and our beliefs - aided by unlimited immigration. The disturbing thing is the amazing extent to which they have succeeded.

Political Correctness

This was the jemmy which was used to prise apart just about every social foundation in Britain.

... even the dismantling of the tri-partite banking system was an assault on conservatism.

So Political Correctness for me is their most devastating accomplishment.

The waste of the opportunity.
Anything really was possible with Oblairma Mk1.
But very little was achieved for so great a cost.

James said...

Yeah, after reading the comments. It's the wasted opportunity.

Never before in the history of British government has so much been squandered by so few to the achievement of so little.

what is not on the list :-

Trying to be clever.

All these policies started out with the best of intentions but ended up as disasters.

I was at a meeting in bristol in 2004 where the man from the hmrc said 'once pensions simplification is complete it is anticipated that you could write the regs on 4 sides of a4'

In 2010, the regs now stretch to over 1000 pages and because they are subject to continual revision, are held on a website.

This is just an example of a repeated pattern.

The trouble is I see no better alternative out there.

I am with Jambo - It's the wasted opportunity

Blair had the money, the goodwill, the Parliamentary majority and the time to do anything he wanted

and he pissed it all up the wall

Chaps, can you have an option for all of the above? I am unable to choose given the choice in front of me.

It's a tough one but the Iraq clusterfuck has special poignancy because of, well, yer know, dead kiddies and shit.

a little surprised that immigration features so strongly - where would middle England be if it had to rely on english tradesmen?

Jim said...

Immigration, because its impossible to reverse. All the others 'could' be changed by an incoming govt with sufficient moral fibre.

CityUnslicker said...

It is a good set of comments.

Could not do all of the above - the idea was to find out what people resented the most. I wonder if I skewed it by too much by putting immigration first.
