Riven Oak: Too Close To Home

Remember the riven oak ? Well at the weekend, a big gust of wind, and ... Only this time, rather close to home. And this time, more than a bough: the entire, mature tree measured its length - across the road, I'm pleased to say, else it might not have been me writing this.

So we're missing a fine tree. Can't immediately think of any metaphors this time.

Santander in the Mail On Sunday for record complaints?

Also its rumoured that the A+L business account, now Santander, will no longer accept cash deposits at the Post Office, which is a strange decision as that was the point of the old A+L business account. Very small local businesses, hairdressers, chip shops, garage, newsagents etc depositing cash. It was partly this depositing in of cash that allowed PO to pay out the pensions.
Outcry imminent as, if it turns out to be true, customers haven't been notified by Santander.

That tree looks healthy, presumably it ripped up from the roots. If not I'd check the other trees down the street for "sabotage".

Sackers, Bill - that could be it
(and many a thrifty squirrel hurt by the collapse)

not thrice, Senna, please not thrice !

actually, SpanOws, there was a ring of fungus at the base of the trunk for several weeks. A knowledgeable neighbour diagnoses honey-fungus - though I must say my previous encounters with that nasty blight have involved the leaves looking very sickly before the end came - and these leaves were in good shape, to the naked eye
