In case you have not noticed.
UK holidays are interesting, still no phone or wi-fi. Weather surprisingly dry - but lack of warmth means have to find things do do with the kids all day which is very expensive. Probably ens up being the same price as flying somwhere with a pool.
Back soon.

You must be in the west country trying to get an O² signal! That was me too, except I picked the heatwave week :)
"lack of warmth means have to find things do do with the kids all day which is very expensive"
I don't understand that. Well I do if you are in a hotel, as we have been, I understand completely. Staying all day in a hotel room is grim. But when holidaying in my touring caravan that has never ever been an issue. You have the most marvellous view if you choose your site well. Open the door and you have buzzards reeling and playing overhead. You discuss the owl calls you heard in the night over breakfast. Put a jumper and jacket on the kids and shove them out the door. The whole of nature is there to explore. With wellies and a net they can fish in the stream or identify berries birds and trees in their books. Set competitions for who can find three different trees, draw them and tell three facts about them. Te winner gets a treat. Go walking through the forest/over hills/along coast as a family and have fun. Take a packed lunch and wach hem build a shelter or walk to a town/village for tea and cakes or a drink and a sandwich. There is so much to do if you camp. But for camping in all weathers you need a caravan. And take board games and swimming things in case it rains. And check out the local cinema before you go. you know it makes sense ;-)
PS: be a member of English Heritage. Then entrance to all sorts of sites is free and you can often get free colouring sheets and info which the kids can read and discuss - knights and castles, kings and conflict, history and heritage. It's well worth it. We bought bows and arrows but swords are available from the gift shop if you don't mind your kids thrashing seven bells out of each other. Alternatively buy archery targets from Decathlon.
ah, caravan holidays ...
you are not wrong abt English Heritage, Philipa. NT is pretty good value too. And the Art Fund, which is really execllent
Haha. But seriously, Nick if you don't like th idea of towing you could hire a motorhome? Unless of course your idea of a holiday is to go to a hotel where the kids can sod off to the pool while you order drinks and play with your iPhone/laptop? Ah husbands :-)
"You must be in the west country trying to get an O² signal!" It's axiomatic that if you travel in the sticks you must carry phones that use different mobile networks. Or at least sims. Don't you guys know anything?
The country is a very odd place.
pet shop and dvd rental. Bookshop and Butchers etc.
Vodafone. Has the most uk coverage.
No orange coverage in the west country second home. none for about 5 miles.
This is strange because I can see the mast. Its only about half a mile away.
The farmer {who gets £xx,xxx for the rental of the land} says he can just about get a signal if parks underneath the mast and stands on his tractor holding his phone in the air.
CU, you may have spent as much as on a foreign holiday but three cheers for doing your patriotic duty!
flying somwhere with a pool
That would be a great parlour trick and no mistake.
Cotswold water park, very picturesque overall and plenty to do as long as you have unlimited money to spend ....
Only O2 works here in terms of mobiles.
