Thornberry: Polly Toynbee Pronounces Fearlessly

The Emily Thornberry affair is right up Polly Toynbee's street, and she thunders into action in the Grauniad's Comment is Free.
Labour must fight off these bogus Tory attacks on class. It is a glorious tradition on the left that people with money join the fight against inequality.
Whoever could she mean ?

Anyhow, the Grauniad is obviously fearful that she'll be covered, not with glory, but with something altogether less fragrant - because they've not allowed any comments.

What a brave class-warrior, eh ?

UPDATE: After some delay, CiF has now facilitated comments.  As SW says in the thread below, they are not entirely sympathetic.  We may guess the moderator has been busy.

Did you mean Polly lives in the same road as Emily?

Sounds credible.

Does Polly have children? If so, where did she school them? Did she do her bit for equality by sending them to the worst state school she could find, to elevate the standards of their wee proletarian classmates, and to cancel out any advantage they might gain from coming from a literate family?

Do you know, I'll bet no Labour supporter has ever done that. Ever.

Interestingly they do have comments on the article, which seem to be 90% against Toynbee. What fun!

Hallo Nick! Hence the Blogosphere allows such comments! Perhaps you'd disagree with my take on the Thornberry episode, though!

Yes, people with money on the left frequently "join the fight against" many things, whilst demanding that the rest of us pay for it.

It is all about language

'Join the fight / support / defend / cuts / bedroom tax' ...

'Defend the NHS'
- of course I do...

Actually means

'5p on taxes to pay for the NHS'
- hang on a min, you didn't say that...

Purely incidentally, did you that her Dad worked with Ralph Miliband in the early 60's?
