How odd!

My long post on the Tory manifeso has disappeared over night, very strange indeed, never had that happen before!

To summarise, there were some good bits on addressing pensions, lowering NI, focusing on reducing the deficit and reducing the costs of government by reducing MP numbers and public sector pay.

It missed badly the slimming of the tax code, merging of NI and Income tax and increasing the thresholds for tax free earnings.

Oh well, I will do something on the LD's later.

Apparently a Lefty complained to the EHRC that your post didn't make enough reference to minority ethnic groups and was therefore classed as discriminatory - leading to its removal.

Lfat is correct.
You mentioned reducing tax, which as we all know, is taking money out of the economy.
The UK would collapse!

Blogger was playing SBs yesterday. I saw the same black cat twice in quick succession.

I thought the Tory manifesto (at least as reported by the Beeb) sounds reasonable. Not too ambitious, not too "same old". I am surprised by how happy I am with it.

"the merging of NI and Income tax" You'll have to vote UKIP if you want that, as we have abandoned the pretence that NI is anything other than a tax.

Mark, you are quite correct NICs are an (income) tax. For the vast majority of workers 1% on NIC is the same as 1% in Income Tax.

So why does Brown boast that he is not putting up IT whilst at the same time criticising the Tories for reducing his 1% NIC rise? Don't answer, he is just delusional.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are going to vote Tory just to get rid of Gordoom, not because they prefer Tory policies to UKIP's.

Mark - I like the look fo teh UKIp policies and as you know I voted UKIP in the Euro elections.

However they are pretty short on detail in terms of what the various policies who do to the macroeconomic position. UKIp are too radical, the majority of the country, even Tories are not going to vote for such a step change all at once. It is too destabilising.

That does not mean most of the ideas are good ones that UKIP has -although I wavert on full withdrawal from the EU.

Come on CU, what is there to waver about in leaving the EU? It will still be on our doorstep as we will remain on it's. We can therefore trade with each other, as now and as before 1972.

No, we will not be able to "influence" their legislation, but so what? We cannot "influence" Swiss, Norwegian or Australian laws either, but we still trade with them. And more to the point, the EU will no longer control our laws. We could make our country as competitive as we dare.

Budgie - I waver because I wonder what punishment the EU would concot for us. And history shows that when the UK ignores Europe, Europe goes to war.

Well, so long as it is at war with each other, and not ganging up on the Anglo-Saxons, what is there to lose?

And if the invocation of the auld alliance causes the Scots to cause trouble north of the border, then we should leave them to it as well. Best be rid of the whole socialist bunch in one go.

Some friends you have there then.

Seriously, that seems to me an excellent reason to walk away.

Please, please let us not conform to the Arab proverb: 'the British buy their enemies and sell their friends'. Let us, for once in our history, hold those who aim to be our enemies in contempt, and ask forgiveness of our friends.
