It's The Guardian for a Real Belly-Laugh

Here is a truly wonderful Grauniad treat.  They publish a piece on an experiment to reduce global warming in a controlled, scientific manner.

Two Harvard engineers are to spray sun-reflecting chemical particles into the atmosphere to artificially cool the planet, using a balloon flying 80,000 feet over New Mexico ... to replicate the observed effects of volcanoes that spew sulphates into the stratosphere, using sulphate aerosols to bounce sunlight back to space and decrease the temperature of the Earth ... "solar geoengineering** could be an inexpensive method to slow down global warming"

Having waved the red rag and lit the blue touch-paper, they stand back and ... let the CiF comments roll !

Page after page after page of utter garbage !  (with the odd intelligent comment for good measure).

If one could be bothered, there is a serious bit of sociological work to be done with that comments thread as a primary source.

Or we can just ROFLOAO !  Go, Grauniad !

** PS, there's more canny geo-engineering where that came from ...

oh yes, let's have a colder planet... That'd be just the ticket for feeding the world.. perhaps some fracking around some volcanoes would do the trick /sarc

Komment Macht Frei is like a wander though an open ward.

Elby had to tell Calfy off the other day. She opened a bottle of pop and let more CO2 into the atmosphere. Tut tut.

Hilarious.

What I love is the idea that "economic benefits" are some sort of sin. It is as if the economy can be viewed in such an abstract sense that it has nothing to do with feeding people or keeping them warm enough to survive the winter.

I wonder if this is how the Orwellian concept of "doublethink" works in some people - you can hold two mutually contradictory beliefs in your head at the same time, but only if you don't really understand either of them!

Research is the devil's work.
Only the teachings of the book of Monbiot must be heard.

My God, I wish I hadn't clicked on that link:

"...human history - specifically human over-population,anthropogenic climate change and anthropogenic mass extinction..."

I didn't realise we were all extinct.

"Smetacek responded that ocean iron fertilisation is much cheaper than other possible geoengineering techniques. He acknowledged more experiments were needed over longer periods to examine, for example, how many of the diatoms were eaten by krill, and then by whales, meaning they did not fall to the ocean floor.

On the ethics of geoengineering, Smetacek, who is a vegetarian, told the Guardian: "We could reduce emissions significantly and increase the scope for sequestration on land [by freeing grazing land for forestry] if we managed to convert the global population to vegetarianism. Would that be geoengineering?"

If it were just the Grauniad it would be a belly laugh. Unfortunately the broadcasting arm of GMG, otherwise known as the BBC, holds much of the population entranced with its unscientific nonsense about CAGW.

These Lefties love to control everything - including the global thermostat.

@Anon 10:03

The concept works very well, it's called "cognitive dissonance".

I did hear about Laura Ashley proposing mylar sheets in geostationary orbit to reduce Global Warming. It may work or simply be curtains for the Earth...
I'll get my coat... ;)
