Whey hey hey

Gosh, it's a tough one this week:

1) Eastleigh - and a debriefing as to what's gone on - could it be UKIP, could it?

2) Downgrading - oh, les horreux! TBF - and I acknowledge i'm probably in the company of very few here - but I really like Angela Eagle - she's a proper fuck you politician, no topic too small to campaign on - fair play to her. Don't agree with a damn word she says but good on her for soing it - it's a job after all.

3) House building & Immigration - think they were probably the main husting topics.

4) British gas - blah blah etc

5) Sleaze in various guises - does politics encourage sleaze? Well, err.. yes. My mentor's refrain was 'Ricky, it's the dirtiest business there is' just before he got done for election fraud but that's for another day....

Dimbo Tie - racing green.

Good luck folks.

1. Should MPs live in their boroughs? Predicting the result.
2. Do MPs really earn stripes by abusing women? Bye Bye Clegg. Sorry, I’m so sorry.
3. Should we pay bankers?
4. Is Italy the laughing stock of Europe? ….[cough]…..Nein, Germans don’t laugh.
5. Taxes… freezing council tax and wacking on mansion tax..

I'll go for pink.

Nick Drew said...

OK, Dimbletie a virginal silky white

Can't see how they'd go with a straight Rennard question but they could weasel around to it ...

1) can we believe the Police on crime figures, what with the Sapphire revelations and all? cunningly leading to ...
1a) are women's complaints on rape and, errr, *ETC* taken adequately seriously?
2) should the energy co's be nationalised?
3) when will someone be fired over NHS / Staffs?
4) who is the UK's version of Boris Grillo?

Was toying with bankers' bonus caps, but on balance I reckon only a meandering 4-and-a-half qns this week

idle said...

Dimbletie: Predominently purple or mauve, avoiding political partiality on election day.

1. Women in politics - do they get a tough time from desperate fat old male MPs? (Obviously not Eagle) Does it deter totty?

2. Are byelections now all about local issues and no longer just a protest vote?

3. Are UKIP now in a position to win a seat in Westminster?

4. Is the drop in immigration a Tory success or more of the old nasty party?

5. Should the arts budget be restored because our luvvies are doing so well in Tinseltown?

Botogol said...

lots of topics this week!

Electing Comedians and Comic Novel writers to parliament - has it gone beyond a joke.

Groping in the corridors of parliament - has it gone beyond a joke

Losing our AAA rating? Is Goerge Osborne beyond a joke

11% Rise in British Gas Profits, 6% rise in prices - are they having a laugh?

Capping Bankers bonuses. You would need a heart of stone not to laugh

Dimbletie - Orange.

I wonder if anyone will remark how much the british film industry relies on bankers looking for dodgy tax havens for their bonuses...

Hopper said...

Dimbletie: little ships on navy blue

1. Will negative interest rates save the UK economy, or does this mean the BoE is all out of ideas?
2. Should Beastly Eastleigh be a vote on the coalition or the economy?
3. Why won't the government cap bankers' bonuses like the EU wants to? No doubt much whining about RBS and payments for failure.
4. Does the loss of AAA mean we need more austerity, or less?
5. What Uk celebrity should do a Grillo?

gsd said...

Hi all.

1) Lib Dem skellingtons rattling out of the closet now: "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing". Will Nick survive?

2) Italian election - Do the ppl actually believe the politician's guff, or was it just a massive protest vote (ie anyone but MM)? What now for Italy & the ECB/Eurozone?

3) US Yahoo's change of stance on homeworking. Should others follow suit?

4) Council tax - if there is going to be massive refusal to pay, should it be taken from pay/benefits at source (for everyone)?

5) Eastleigh - could/should DC have come to an aggreement with UKIP to oust the LibDems? Have the Hamiltons helped or hindered their side?

and Dimbletie = green & blue.

James Higham said...

Stonewall: "Do two female PPCs at Eastleigh show that gay politics has been overtaken by "get more women into parliament"?

Angela: "Just tell me when it's all clear to calm down - when does polling close?"

Claire: "I might have read geography but where's Eastleigh - anyone know?"

Neil: "Ah, brown envelope ... thanks David ... I was ... er ... wondering you know."

Ken: "Do you think, David, that we could get some real interaction going here, rather than this contrived talkfest you're hoping it will be?

Last minute rush back from the polls:

1. Bankers Bonuses

2. Is Nigel Farage un-electable.

3. Hell hath no fury - 3 Points please.

4. Will Nick Clegg keep his AAA rating after today,

5. Is the BBC finished.

Tie. Blue with Red and Yellow pattern and a hint of purple - for balance.

Timbo614 said...

With time to think, a lot to choose from this week.

1) AA1 and an awful Armageddon avoided and/or awarded?

2) Politicians in particular (Clegg Rennart, Huhne, Laws & many others) and in a posse, why do they always lie when first posed a tricky question - they lie - why? Why should we trust any of them?!

3) Which way do the panel think Eastleigh should(have) voted and why should they NOT vote for UKIP? leading to...

4) can UKIP pull a Beppe Grillo by 2015?

Only 4 all time spent discussing the shortcomings of our political class/functionaries while avoiding all the serious sh*t that still might be coming our way...

Kynon said...

TV is off (again) - Scot's Honour.

Dimbytie - yellow.

1) BG/Centrica profits - weeping/wailing/gnashing of teeth given recent price hikes which were required - someone to make a "thin of the cheeeldren" comment about fuel poverty.

2) Banker's bonuses (again) - how/why is RBS earmarking £600-odd million when they posted a £5.something billion loss?

3) Something about the Rennard groping/lechery thing - why did Clegg lie about it, and how deep/wide does this go? (Said the actress to the bishop, etc etc...)

4) Eastleigh - is it time for the UK to do an Italy & vote for someone *completely* leftfield?

5) Cardinal Keech (Scottish terminology) O'Brien - methinks he didst protest too furiously about the arse bandits! Is it possible for the Catholic Church to elect a "clean" Pope?

Kynon said...

Oops - why did I think it started at 2200? D'oh. TV is still off!

Budgie said...

1. Italy, are all politicians clowns?

2. Downgrade, is Osborne a clown?

3. Eastleigh, will UKIP win, or one of the LabLibCon clowns?

4. LibDems imploding (Huhne, Rennard, Clegg)?

5. Will the EU win a bonus by bashing the bankers?

Malcolm Tucker said...

Navy and white Dimbytie.

First Q: What lessons does the bruising election campaign in Eastleigh have for parties in 2015 General Election.

{bit of a dull one. Hope this livens up}

Q2: Following loss of the triple-A rating, isn't it time we stepped down austerity and concentrated on growing economy?
Yep. If only we weren't starting from here, that's what they'd do. Someone forgot to put the boom money aside.

Q3: Are women safe in British politics.
Chosen the most polite way to say women are pestered by the boys club.

Q4. Banker's bonuses.

Only 4 questions tonight.

@BE A gentle word from your sponsor in your shell-like. Are you implying that there is something wrong with the colour balance on BQ's Telly? Or that the eyesight of the green and purple twittering birdies is defunct? "No whinging"! :)

Scores.
{Thank goodness for perky Perry. Looney Lefty Loach and the monotone Eagle almost drove me to bed}

BQ - 6

DTP : Almost marked you down after the evil Eagle droned on and on like a stuck Claire Short. Boring and irrelevant on every topic. And dressed as Little John,{the forester, not the speaker} for some reason.
However - 5 +1+1 for first for Grillo = 7

Measured - 6

ND - you got the setup so well, but not the questions,. - 4 +1 for {4q} +1 for grillo =6

Idle - bit mixed, but I think 5 is fair.+1 for the Eagles dig. {thought I'd add you one rather than take one off DTP. }

Botogol - V. good -10

Hopper - 10 {+ giving you the Dimbytie as you had an accurate NAVY blue} - 15!

Gsd - ok 5 {+1 for the xtra comments} = 6

JH : You still haven't quite got the hang of this..However, good all rounders - 4

Taff - welcome - good start - 8 {+1 for first go ) - 9

Timbo614 - 6 + 1 for 4 =7

Kynon -6 +1 for grillo = 7

Budgie - good for a quickie - 7

Malcolm - good late entry - 6

CU - 1 for turning up anyway - 1

Winner is Hopper with a huge 15.

Your prize is to decide the theme of Commie Ken's next movie.

{I suggest make him do some sort of national lampoons vacation }

Bill Quango MP said...

You're right you know..Navy blue and purple hearts. I refuse to wear my specs.

Well, Hopper still gets it, but extra +1s for Gsd, Taff, + timbo.
And +3 for Idle who was very close.

+ 1 for BE for turning up.

Ok?

Thanks BQ - I vote for a biopic of Sarah Palin, requiring Ken to spend the next 12 months in Wasilla.

Slightly off topic; Eastleigh: "turnout in the constituency was 52.8 per cent, down from 69.3 per cent in the 2010 General Election"

I have trouble believing, that with all the hoopla and the importance put on this bye-election that so many would stay away... "Bloggers" in general are correct that the British public is sleepwalking into whatever is being planned for them :(

Bill Quango MP said...

Its a by election Tim. A 52% turnout would put it in the top 3 or 4 since 1997. Pretty good considering its cold.

measured said...

Harsh, given they did spend the first half of the programme trying to predict the result.

Anyway, given these random points for posting and ties, in the light of QT discussion don't I get an extra point for being a girl?

Botogol said...

joint top!

Now, If i'd only participated in the Mussolini quiz to get that extra QT point - - or just said something witty in my entry, I would be top! Those missed opportunities in life eh?

I am ashamed to say I fell asleep at 10pm and missed the whole show :-( a long week.

Timbo614 said...

@measured "Anyway, given these random points for posting and ties, in the light of QT discussion don't I get an extra point for being a girl? "

No - It's called "Equality of the sexes" definitely not a case of "One tie-all-tie" :)

Bill Quango MP said...

Miss Measured. One day one of your QT tweets might earn you a point. : Didn't see one yesterday ?

measured said...

You were looking, were you?

I was stunned that Neil Hamilton's tie and handkerchief didn't match and that someone in the audience expressed sympathy for Huhne. Maybe the Lib Dems got in on a misguided sympathy vote. It isn't about him speeding; it is about him lying about it. Thinking about it, that is the sort of stuff one tweets about. At least the Eagle didn't land.
