World Cup Nightmare

What is one supposed to do now...

1. Germany. I like Germany - nice food,  nice people, nice country quite sensible on things not related to energy or comedy. But not when it comes to football, after all, they always win and normally with some style, which as an England fan, is desolating.

2. Argentina - Beautiful country, nice food, but large prediliction for cheating and unprovoked military attacks. Nil points, can't ever support them.

3. Holland - Boring country, nice but worthy people, say they play stylish football but seems to involve a lot of fouling and cheating (esp. Arjen Robben) in actualite.

A Germany-Argentina final means that I'd be cheering on Germany, ouch. A Germany-Holland final means what? Probably for me supporting Germany.

I don't like this position. I don't like this position at all.

(Comments saying don't watch it or care as I have really enjoyed the world cup [certainly after last night's result no one can ever claim its fixed!] I will just delete them).

What is the right call to make in this sad situation?

Have watched almost every match. Easily the best world cup in memory. Possibly best ever.

Quite pleased we got knocked out early on. Wouldn't have liked England to limp through the groups like we have in the past and then to come up against this German team.

7-1.

SEVEN - ONE!

4 goals in six minutes? It was incredible.

I thought the 'Special One' selling David Luiz was only a borderline correct decision and only because of the £50 million price tag.

Now it looks like the deal of the century.

yes, Germany it is

Holland - boring country and a surprising proportion of actually quite 'sharp' people
(altogether now: But I've never met a nice ...)

Easy choice - Germany. They play nice football and I've not noticed them diving or writhing. It almost makes Wendyball look respectable again after all those cheating Latin types.

And I liked the dirty German girls when I lived there.

I picked Argentina to win when it was announced that the tournament was going to be held in Brazil. The home side did not appear good enough (I had no idea how right I was!), so I figured that the Argies would make the most of South American advantage. I am now concerned that I did not tell enough people and now that we are down to the last four, it's not exactly an impressive prediction... Hang on, I just remembered somewhere I did predict it. On this blog at the start of the year... I also correctly predicted that UKIP would top the EUParl pol. Ha!... Expect Argentina to lose tonight now I have said all that...

... last three *cough*

Germany without question.

My Greek lodger wants the Argies on the grounds that the Germans are "bastards". I assume he is referring to the personal characteristics of the individual players in the current team.

Having said that, earlier in the tourny I suggested that Argentina could win and then go bust as a country.

I was thinking to myself last night that English supporters seem to have stopped rating Germany as our bogey team, possibly because England is now our bogey team.

BQ re Luiz, if you thought selling him might have been a poor decision you obviously haven't been watching him stroll about the park all season. He has been awful at the Bridge. I was annoyed that Mata went but can now see the logic and it was good to offload a lemon to United :-D

Turn over to the cricket and support England?

Bet on the draw and hope they both play pants?

Personally I'd support the Dutch over the Germans or any other team in Europe. Have always found Dutch folk more fun. Great memories on my trip to Berlin for my 30th teaching one of them 'ze basil faulty goosestep'.

BE _ I never did like you anyway and now you come out as a closet chelsea fan...yuck!!

Corned beef (and other tasty cuts) will fall in price with the peso, perhaps?

CU all the best people on this site are Chelsea fans ;-)

I assume that as a SarfEasterner and a banker you are Millwall.

Drink heavily & cheer on the referee?

Mwwaahhahah. Odd to find myself cheering on Germany against Brazil. Poor Brazil - all their players now play in Europe and the free style football we all loved so much, born and nurtured IN Brazil is gone, gone, gone.

Now, had Holland won last night, I'd be cheering on Germany again. Not sure what I have against the Dutch, but they were by a long way the most difficult customers I had (even amending our software {and breaking it} and denying they had touched it!), and I can't stand Robben's diving diving diving.

Argentina - well, of course they have three City players; they make great wine, produce great beef, and for all the faff about the Falklands, it seems to me that the English and the Argentinians have much in common as well. Oh, and I have a cousin who used to sell them Polo ponies as well.

So I shall be supporting Argentina on Sunday. I think they are probably underdogs, but so superbly did their defence suppress the Dutch threat last night, making Holland look ordinary, that I think they could beat Germany. Especially if Aguero starts.

Bill,

Luiz is a defensive crash waiting to happen. He's also a very nasty player, who has a habit of taking out oppos with his shoulder and then looking innocent. He very nearly badly injured another player last season using this tactic. Nasty bit of work, a screaming drama queen, and Mourinho (a nasty bit of work and a screaming drama queen himself) must have pissed himself when PSG spent so much on what is a very ordinary footballer.

Elby the Beserk said...

Chelsea fans? From way back, or glory hunters?

Does anyone like corned "beef"?

Wow...

I did hope that Maggie, having broken the back of the Argie armed forces would invade and close down all the plants. Hey ho.

CityUnslicker said...

John - I like corned beef hash, not that I have had it for many a year.
...public school is a tough upbringing culinary wise!

BE - leeds fan, even worse than millwall.

Nick Drew said...

Elby - 100% with you on the Dutch (see #2 above): only bad debt I ever had (apart from Russia, natch, but we knew that beforehand and had taken steps) was a Dutch counterparty, nasty little weasel

Your blog is really nice. If I may share some insight, traffic studies on blogs show most people read blogs on Mondays. So it should encourage blogger to write new updates over the weekend primarily.
