Hop It, Frog

So, farewell then, Vincent de Rivaz, point-man for France's baleful nuclear policy in the UK, architect of Hinkley Point C, persistent and devious lobbyist, and triumphant hands-down victor over the Civil Service and successive UK governments.

Oh, and originator of the Radioactive Turd.

It was your machinations last summer (at the behest of, and strongly backed up by Hollande) which tipped off the whole world that Theresa May was Not Up To the Job.

Can't see the back of you soon enough.

ND

PS - I hope, however, that you live long enough to see the HPC project abandoned without ever having generated a single KWh.  Of which I reckon there's a fair chance.

If this is BAU it's not as much fun as bitching about the Tories.

E-K, that’s the really worrying thing about the state of Britain today. The political class haven’t just been kicking the can down the road for a couple of decades or more with one major issue. They’ve been doing it with almost everything that’s in any way difficult or controversial. The danger is that many of the problems that they’ve been ignoring will reach crisis point at around the same time, so that the usual government OmniShambles will become an OmniCrisis in which everything breaks down at once.

As AndrewZ points out there is the potential for a "Perfect Storm" to hit the UK in the not too distant future. One unfortunately I fear will affect my generation as much as my children and grand children.

How will Generation Snowflake cope when it hits?

Especially when we have brown-outs and complete black-outs across the country. No volts, no t'internet! I wonder how many of them even know the right end of a candle to light? Let alone having a couple weeks worth of victuals stored away. As when the gas and lecky go off there'll be no ordering a pizza delivery!

the brownouts have already started, BB - record number in 2015 and when we see the 2016 stats it will prob show even worse

I dont wish to distract from the apocalyptic meme but I think we may worrying about this because the more important issues have gone away (like mass unemployment / expecting the bomb to drop / the lights actually going out / crap food / casual racism)

Devoutly to be hoped.

Andrew - There is mass unemployment, in the form of unpaid re-deployment (studentships.) The bomb is now in the hands of loonatics too. The lights are about to go out (as discussed) we didn't know the food was crap at the time (it was rather satisfying, as I recall) Casual racism exists still, more likely to be directed at us - sexism towards men existed then as it does now. Fanny Craddock, George and Mildred, Basil and Sybil...

Female oppression is a fiction in the Anglican community. A reversal of the truth - its return is because of other cultures but is celebrated.

A really good thing is no smoking (as a non smoker it was awful) and I expect things like double glazing and micro fibres will mean we never fall to the ghastly cold as we used to - also great communications and entertainment have been minitiarised and made available even to people in the Third World, though the technological zenith meets a cultural nadir and is able to transmit it like a virus.

*edit* Andrew - There is mass unemployment, in the form of unpaid re-deployment (studentships and *internships*.)

We certainly knew that our school dinners were crap in the 1950s. ;-)

Wonder what his "incentive" (bonus) will be for talking the UK govt into agreeing wildly expensive HPC? In 2015 his "incentive" was only £555k, making his package only £0.92 million:

poor lad.

Yes but several of you have been calling it for the Perfect Storm for years, and each year the lights stay on, unemployment falls, the deficit falls.

Nick, it could be worse - the German government has to pay back the nuclear tax bwahahaha.
