May's Legacy: As We Were saying

As you may recall, I consider the worst feature of May's baleful legacy to be that by failing to crush the morale of the bedsit left in the 2017 GE, she has encouraged every leftist idiot out of their decade-long despondency to give vent to their wildest fanatsies - which they have every intention of having Corbyn enact.  And in the bidding war before the next GE, who knows what he'll promise?

Exhibit A: - and I'm going Daily Mail on you now - here's the operative part of a motion passed on Monday at the AGM of the British Medical Association.
This meeting calls for the policy of charging migrants for NHS care to be abandoned and for the NHS to be free for all at the point of delivery
And they do mean 'all'.

See what I mean?

And the thing is, stuff like that can actually be delivered.  It's the complex financial stuff they'd find they can't do.  And then they'd turn to the gesture politics.  It's cheap (in the short run), it's stroke-of-a-pen stuff.  And they'd really enjoy doing it.

Der lange Marsch durch die Institutionen is almost complete.

Not sure who is to blame for not stemming this. Bonfire of the Quangos might have helped but now even that won't be enough.

An Ecksian purge is required.

The national socialists are doing a fine job of self combustion along with the cons.

Funny that, I don't remember even the most militant shop steward at BL instructing the management to export Allegros' for free...

Only the utter awfulness of Blair saves May getting my nomination for Worst PM for a Century or More.

She was even worse than Wilsonheath.

The government should announce very publicly that General Practices, as private companies or partnerships, have been and are always free to treat whoever they wish - at their own expense. We'll see how generous and big-hearted they are then.

The BMA are only going to get worse, as the younger generation of doctors and med students are extremely 'woke'.

dearieme - it's as if May wakes up each morning and thinks "what can I do to p*** off conservatives today?"

Still, the Tories thought that electing someone, whose greatest achievement was giving the BBC/Guardian a stick to beat them with, was a good idea. They have been richly rewarded for this choice.

Totally OT, but a commenter elsewhere on Pope Francis:

"It is my deepest hope that the next Pope concerns himself merely with visiting his (female) mistresses, finding cushy, no-show jobs for his bastard children, and poisoning all the Cardinals. The Church desperately needs such a man."

It's too soon to talk about May's legacy. She hasn't left yet.

She can do a lot more damage in July. And after that, she can sit on the back benches and stir up as much trouble as she can.

The BMA are entirely free to apply their membership income to building and staffing maternity facilities to NHS standards in Lagos, Port Harcourt and elsewhere - it will save the third trimester mums from the stress of the flights to London. Doctors can donate as much of their pay as they wish to such pro-bono provision.

Unless of course it's not their own but everyone else's money they want to spend on such largesse ...

I'm on holiday with two at the moment and can confirm. They are well 'woke'.

Ah, the theiving butchers of the BMA virue signalling using other peoples money again. Never forget Bevan's quote on how he 'stuffed their mouths with gold' to get the BMA to sign up to the creation of the NHS.

Just a shame they have forgotten the fourth founding principle of the NHS after
free at the point of use, available to everyone in need of it, paid for out of general taxation, was that it was to be used responsibly.

As with all the founding principles of the welfare state, whether Beveridge or Bevan, if we reverted to them there would be hysterical squeals of outrage from the modern left.

One of the many London 'secrets' I delight in presenting to visitors is just a brief walk down the Strand from Charing X - the Zimbabwe High Commission. The building was originally commissioned by the BMA as its HQ, and included sculptural figures carved in-situ by Jacob Epstein (he who also carved Oscar Wilde's tomb in Pere Lachaise Cemy)

Looking up at the facade today, it is obvious that the naked human figures have been horribly vandalised, smashed in an orgy of angry iconoclasm. No, it wasn't the Zims. It was the BMA - so outraged were its members at Epstein's portrayal of human nakedness that they ordered the facade to be destroyed so that all the naughty bits were smashed.

A good anecdote to tell if you're escorting one of E-K's woke Hippocratic types around London.

I think infectious diseases such as TB should be treated free, even if the sufferer is a penniless migrant. We don't want to be catching the diseases.

Otherwise, the British taxpayers obviously can't provide free medicine to the world. Nor, now, can we really provide it for our greatly swollen population.

But Christian charity does suggest that we should help the poor and sick, whoever they are. Maybe the Church of England should set up a charity to supplement NHS funding.

@Don Cox:

Infectious diseases and psychiatric disorders where the person is at immediate risk to themselves and/or others, are already treated for free, because treatment is compulsory and cannot be refused.

BMA notwithstanding, plenty of doctors are conservative although will not publicly express these views except to other doctors (proportions probably in line with the general population).

There are probably a few extreme socialist doctors but most don't want to provide free healthcare to the world - but most do support the "principle" of the NHS that doctors should not decide treatment based on what the patient is able to pay, but rather what is the most cost-effective treatment. Most doctors do not want to be immigration police either.

Anon: "There are probably a few extreme socialist doctors .. "

Shouldn't they be working, you know, for free?

A Marxist doctor should be paid according to his needs.

Socialism has its roots in Trade Unionism (and earlier peasant revolts) and generous wages are a key demand. You can pay a Marxist too much, but not a socialist.

Every day, the BBC radio news gives a new example of May spunking more of our money on a pointless virtue signalling exercise. When will someone tell her to stop?

To be fair - they're lovely kids but carefully selected for being communicative and compassionate, so they won't be telling people that they cannot be treated.

How can you ever get through to someone who thinks there is a magic money tree and sees no reason why someone who paid for a service should go ahead of the queue in front of someone who does not live here and has not paid a thing ?

Nick Drew said...

Kev - you can't, they are impervious to even the most trivial level of reason, and in the grip of a laughable feel-good-virtue-signasm (or of a very naive form of Christianity: as I recall the Good Samaritan was quite hard-headed, and knew full well that things had to be paid for - by himself!)

which leads me back to my overarching point, viz that these people are best confined to their bedsits where they'd ben languishing in a vague feeling of shoulder-shrugging powerlessness for many a long year, and that May's 2017 fiasco Woke them, and had them out on the streets following the Pied Piper of Islington on behalf of his Children's Crusade

(another post coming shortly)
