Raedwald: You Can Just Picture Him Now ..!

Here's Raedwald!  Courtesy of Ilia, who kindly wrote to us BTL this morning, and also stars in this picture with her Uncle Mikey.

Many thanks indeed, Ilia.

Looks like a guy it would be good to have a beer or two with.

Nice to put a face to a man so many of us knew for so long through interactions on his blog, we could all have done with him sticking around longer, God bless him.

I have a lump in my throat.

I wish you hadn't shown it, really.

Still got my homepage as The Fat Bigot Opines as my quick link to my favourite blogs of which Radders was one of the best. My condolences to Ilia, of whom I bet he was incredibly proud. Thank you for your lovely post young lady.

I regularly read Raedwald's blog and only very occasionally commented anonymously.
I found his blog invariably interesting and very well researched, often with arcane information that I found intriguing.
When I hadn't seen any posts after July 27 I thought he'd probably taken a break, gone on holiday or just rested. The news of his death saddened me greatly though I had absolutely no connection with him other than enjoying his blog.
I thought Ilia's beautiful encomium (posted under 'Raedwald RIP') of her uncle Mikey was most moving - I wish I'd known him.
As a fatuous aside, Raedwald is not at all as I'd pictured him.
Sincere condolences to his family and friends, he'll be much missed by them and a much wider circle, I'm sure.
God bless.

Ilia: Many thanks for the tribute and the picture, and I'm sorry for your loss. Raedwald's blog was required reading. Your uncle and his writings will be sorely missed.

I don't know how many years he was in my RSS feed, it can't have been very long after he started and as he was usually an early morning poster I generally got to read his wisdom over breakfast.

My thanks also to Ilia, he won't remembered as an anonymous blogger now that I have a face to put to that body of work.

PS John Miller, your home page remains in my RSS feed, just in case you should be tempted to to reenter the fray.
