Crash

A reader writes.

Dear Mr CU
I've been reading your blog for some months and find it both entertaining and informative. I happened to be listening to "Crash" by The Primitives last night and I was struck by how perfectly the lyrics fit the taxpayers relationship with Gordon Brown.

Best wishes,
Geoff.

Now, just watched Mr Bean's holiday with Miss Quango. This very song features, making it even more appropriate.

Bank holiday competition.
Other appropriate election songs.
Hey, hey we're the Monkeys - Monkeys.
Beat it - Michael Jackson.
Go Now - Moody blues.
Its all over but the crying - Garbage.
Are you ready to be heartbroken? -Lloyd Cole and the Commotions

I read Crash by JG Ballard about 20 years ago.
It is one of a very few books that have left me feeling grubby.

At the end one of the characters dresses up as Liz Taylor and kills himself by trying to drive his car into Liz's limo.

The theme of one person's need to assume the identity of someone else and in doing so causes their own destruction - and attempts to destroy the original has a resonance.

David Cronenberg made a film based on it, Anon. I think a director whose most famous quote is "For me the body is the source of horror" would be well placed to make a movie about Gordon Brown.

Puddle Of Mudd have a wonderful sing (on a bloke realising his girlfriend can't stand him), called "She fucking hates me" - which is the chorus. Easily adapted

"We fucking HATE him".

I have never experienced such a visceral loathing of another human being as I do for Brown. Me, a peace-loving Hippie from the 60s. I fucking HATE him.

If our predictions are correct tomorrow should see Her Majesty having a cup of tea with the a certain Prime Minister.

Then its just 30 more days or 1,865 more days of him.

Bill! I didn't see that you had a compo going this Easter, and, in honour of your comment on Iders' post, I started another one!

Just for this one however, I think Radiohead 'How to disappear completely', 'Treefingers','Optimistic'(all following each other on "Kid A", and the Beatles' 'Back in the USSR', which is just before 'Dear Prudence', on the White Album...
