QUESTION TIME COMPETITION

THIS WEEK

David Dimbleby chairs the first Question Time of 2013, from Lewisham in south London. Joining him on the panel are: Ed 'windmill' Davey, the energy and climate change secretary; Lord 'lardy,shaggy,punchy' Prescott, former deputy prime minister; Nadine ' kangaroo nuts' Dorries, MP for Mid Bedfordshire; John Bird, founder of the Big Issue;{can't say anything bad about him- one of the most upfront and sensible people on the planet} and Times columnist Camilla Cavendish.{another pretty sensible person. Especially for a journo}

 Enter your guess for what you believe the audience will ask the panel. Maximum of 5 guesses allowed. Various special rules apply ;

rough scoring guide

bang on,as the script, right answer - 3 points
Close enough for government work right answer -2 points
in the right ballpark - 1point
witty comments - 1 point

Posting first - 1 point
Predicting correct colour of Dimbleby's tie - 1 point {must guess before 9pm.}

Season opener guesses are supplied by  Kynon -

1. Does the panel think it is appropriate for serving MPs to appear on "popular" (I use the term very loosely) television shows if it prevents them representing their constituents (aka - Dorries gets a kicking)?

2. Something about fracking/renewables, since Ed Davey is there.

3. Someone is bound to talk about the proposed 1% cap on benefits (it is a Big Issue, after all).

4. M&S's disappointing annual results - beginning of (another) decline/fall of a UK institution? {I'll allow jessops here, as you went early}

5. Two Jags/Shags/god-knows-how-many-houses-Prescott to get a shoeing for hypocritical mocking of Tory expense claims when his own were, um, just about as dodgy (broken toilet seats etc)?

Hmm. In no particular order:

4. M&S's disappointing annual results - beginning of (another) decline/fall of a UK institution?

5. Two Jags/Shags/god-knows-how-many-houses-Prescott to get a shoeing for hypocritical mocking of Tory expense claims when his own were, um, just about as dodgy (broken toilet seats etc)?

Hopefully some of that translates into English - it is early after all.

EU - should we have a referendum, should we do what America tells us.
Andrew Marr - is running deadly?
Digital switchover - should the rich be forced to buy big flat tellies to boost the economy?
Food waste - will Lord Prescott be doing his bit to reduce the amount thrown away?

1. The benefit cap - shirkers and strivers dividing lines. Is this the end of liberal Britain?

2. NI flag - Not sure about this. QT try to avoid Northern Ireland if they can.

3. Coalition's half term statement. Are the coalition actually better than they appear to be?

4. New Years honours. Failed bankers vs honoured athletes. A chance to dig tubby in his ermine clad ribs.

5.Prison privatisation. Should we entrust our total failure of a probation system to the almost certain failure the market will achieve. It will just be very slightly cheaper to continue with the failure.

Even Biased BBC have stopped doing their live blog (as has Guido for PMQs - maybe libel issues) so the requirement to get absolutely blottoed afore yee watch has grown in importance.

1) Benefits - isn't it all just tragic? Isn't it tho, isn't it?

2) Starving kiddies, food banks - oh, les horreux, les dispicablals etc etc ad nauseaum (although, maybe not in this case!) If someone doesn't mention the massive amounts of food wated here then my name's Mariella Frosties.

3) Some bollox about energy policy - y'ad think - fuel poverty or the like (which, tbf, i'm all onboard the oligopolistic rip off that my house feels).

4) Homelessnessnessness & maybe affordable housing as split sides of the same pffenig.

5) Is Nads mad, is she? Is she barking? nah, seriously - a UKIP / Europe type question. The Speccie have a kite of Cammo's Euro speech and zzzzzzz

Good luck everybody & happy new year.

OK, I'm back for the new season. (gosh, did anyone miss me ?)

1 - should we tell America to mind it's own business? (re EU advice of course)

2 - is it right for benefits to rise faster than wages ?

3 - is food waste partly caused by government sell-by regulations? and silly EU rules on fruit?

4- are Academy schools Grammar Schools in disguise?

5 - have any of the panel downloaded the new Bowie song?

Bill Quango MP said...

I forgot to add...I was serious about the Dimble-tie. If you want to add your choices please do..

I'm going for a plain daffodil yellow.

Dumbletie - bright and predominantly purple.

Welcome back all [and Botogol :)]- just in case there is a league table I will attempt be "witty" AND use quotes :)

1) Food wasted whilst while the wanting of the world waste away! up to 50%!! Every little BOGOFF helps or not!

2) Ballyhoo over benefits breaking the bank. Blimey! every one is going backwards now! (Someone, probably Nadine Dorris, will say "but we are having to clear up the Labour mess we inherited").

3) University uptake, understandably under-performs. at £9,000 per year are we actually surprised ("The Coalition Isn't Working" Will come up :)

4) Is it a jail? Is it a clink? Is it the slammer? No it's SuperPrison!!

Just what is going to happen here?

Build it and fill it with Pensioners please. I'm sure they will like built in TV (with games and 3d no doubt) super fast internet, Hot showers, en-Suite? Cooked meals in Super Kitchen. I can see this coming, the Savoy would probably be able to buy it. Other wise it will be "against their 'uman rights!!).

5) MPs Vote for 32% pay rise. "we are all in this together" HA HA HA HA Ha [Thumps side, bends over giggling uncontrollably]. 'course we are. That'll be -1% for plebs and a therefore a 33% bonus for non-plebs.

Oh the Tie Breaker Q: Very bright normally.

Diamond pattern with Orange and peacock bright blue in it :) (any bonuses for the pattern?)

I have been lurking, but lacking inspiration. Hector really is a one smooth operator.

Happy New Year!

Kynon, “In no particular order” – Rofl! You think this is that easy? Keep standing on the log.

Good to see you, Botogol.

Prezza and wildfire women. Who needs windfarms?

1. Who eats all the pies? Food waste.

2. When the pie was open, the birds began to sing. No jobs/family breakdowns/less legal aid… (Cavendish did upset the Family Division. Munby won’t be so bothered as he is pragmatic.)

3. It’s not mom’s apple pie. It is tarte aux pomme. EU

4. Who stole the pie? Deficit shortfall/Could do better/Pensioners/Labour

5. Girl raped and murdered in Delhi/Saudi beheading a 17 year old girl/Malala coming out of prison…. Pie Jesu….the life of Pi…pies are squared …and girls deserve a square meal. Sorry, back to the kitchen.

Bright pinky-purple geometry on a dark background.

2nd stab:

There absolutely has to be a question along the lines of "why are the unemployed and the working poor bearing the brunt of an economic crisis they didn't cause?" following generalised non-specific anti-banker stuff.

Botogol said...

he! he!
one day they'll cut to the chase and have a simpler question

"would any members of the panel like an opportunity to rant about bankers for minute or two?"

Malcolm Tucker said...

Happy New year all.

lets see ..A red plain Dumbletie.
Plus..

1. benefits cap and the prezza talks about a tax cut for millionaires and a tax rise for the poorest.

2. Super prisons. Whose idea was this {labour}. Will it be opposed..absolubtely.

3. Fracking question. Windmill, energy bills, fuel duty question.

4. train fare rises and RPI/CPI mouth off.

5. No idea..I'm just winging it..lets say Plebgate.

Miss CD is still recovering from cancer, but so far so good. Been in hospital on and off for 7 months now.

gsd said...

Hi all.

First off, poor Miss CD - if you're reading this, best wishes from me. Hope everything continues to improve.

I've no idea what is going on in the news (still in holiday mode atm), so I'm not expecting much!

1) The EU - should the UK even consider a referendum or just do what the other countries want us to?

2) The Nick Clegg radio show - How is if different to Nadine's little stint in the jungle?

3) Capped welfare rises - fair to all?

4) Coalition's broken pledges - a sign of politics today (promise any & everything, deliver nothing) or just a run of bad luck?

5) Windmill vs. Nucs vs. FracGas - which should we go for. (Possible ref to the Thorium research push by the Chinese)

and Dumbletie = blue.

happy new year to all.

Nick Drew said...

yes, best wishes to her from C@W

1) USA & UK & EU
2) should Sants get that knighthood, wrapped up in general mouth-foaming over LIBOR & other bankers' outrages
3) planning bribes to dodge Green Belt restrictions
4) Australian fires 'proving' global warming & what is Davey doing about it
5) food, glorious food

a pale blue tie

Hoping to sneak in under the wire:
1. Does the benefit freeze prove that we're all in it together?
2. Bankers' bonuses next week; what should happen at Government-owned banks?
3. Jessops: another sign of the recession?
4. Got to be train fares, what are we getting for the money?
5. What food does the panel waste at home?

Bill Quango MP said...

OK - Off we go
Firstly the Dimbletie is a mint green floral.

Strivers and shirkers has been said a few times in the first 10 minutes. point to me I think.

Q1: Is the 1% benefits cap fair?
Audience raucously applaud Mr Bird. Not sure they understand what he is actually saying. Ed Davey has said twice that the wealthy businessman paid less tax than his cleaner ..Something that should be punishable by a face slap unless 'tax rate' is added.
Audience lady slaps Lord Prezzas rant down. Even got 'illegal war' in. Camilla was good too on labour's bribing of the middle classes.

Q2: Do politicians who court celebrity debase the honour of their own profession?
Mad Nads the target..what a surprise. Whole question is just for Nadine. A bit of a waste really. They try to bring Prezza into it with his punchy advert, but its not the same thing.

Q3: David Cameron claimed the NHS was safe in his hands. Given cuts and closures across the country, is this still the case?

Blast - I knew this was going to come up. Mrs Q has been on about it for ages.Apparently Lewisham hospital has only just had a multi million pound refurbishment. Now it is likely to close. I've been many times to this A+E hospital and it was always horrible. But is was also full. Certainly looks like another badly executed bit of civil service business.

Q4: Should David Cameron take notice of the United States' warning not to leave the European Union?

crow-bared in for just a few minutes at the end.

only 4 questions for the 1st show. Dimby normally makes a greater effort on the first night.

Bill Quango MP said...
