... if Starmer doesn't back down on PIP etc. Oh yeah? Way back in the summer we noted that Starmer had come down hard (very hard, in terms of precedent) on the first batch of rebels, by way of a softening-up of backbenchers for even tougher decisions to come. (That one was over the 2-child limit.) Here's how we concluded then:
Many of them must be trembling at the thought of what they're going to be told to vote for. The Smack of Firm Government, eh? And a summer of riots still to come ... Kier "I banged them all up in 2011" Starmer will be in his element.
Needless to say, La Toynbee has been hyperventilating with her usual subtle mixture of crazy optimisim and severe disapproval. Popcorn supplies having long since been laid in, let's see what happens.

I guess (i) Most Labour MPs couldn't earn such large salaries at anything else. (ii) Most know they are likely to lose their seats at the next election. (iii) Most know that with 400-ish Labour MPs there is only a slim chance of a government job.
So why should they do anything else but (a) Refrain from drunkenly assaulting voters, and (ii) Indulge themselves politically as much as they like.
After all, if a gang of them did succeed in bringing down Sir Greased Piglet then suddenly they might have a chance of a government job, to let them prance and preen upon the stage.
I suspect the upcoming Helsby by-election will help Starmer too, with a risk of Reform taking it, they'll want minimal infighting.
Afterwards, especially if they lose, well, that could be different.
Punishment is what Starmer does.
I suspect it gives him a stiffy, so aroused does he seem to be by punishing people. Unspeakable excuse for a human being.
Just coincidence I suppose

Vlad will be terrified, eh? ... Starmer could of course threaten to bore him to death, I guess.
Critical infrastructure such as for one of the biggest airports in the world has multiple redundancies. There is no way that Heathrow was solely reliant on the Hayes substation. So, if Heathrow has lost power then that suggests multiple related incidents.
The BBC has quoted Milliband as saying the sub-station's backup-generator "appears to have been knocked out". Which just shows what a fool he is - if the substation is on fire then it won't be supplying power no matter what the source. Unless of course, he is actually referring to alternate power sources that have also been knocked out.
I wonder if they will ever tell us the truth about what has really happened?

The truth is very simple.

B'b'b'baby - you ain't seen nothing yet, as the song went...
Starmer says he wants to save a few bob on the benefits bill. I know a couple of beneficiaries and the system does look a bit slack. However doing something about it looks a different kettle of fish - how, who, how much, how long a job is it, how many staffers at how much/day, when does HMG see a payback - if ever?
The job entails millions of tiny assessments each with a loud wail, half a dozen bureaucrats for each one (at least) and a tribunal (or three, with appeals) and lawyers/tiktokers and the newspapers and some noisy lobby groups and the benefits industry. Drag out for years. Makes the Gordian Knot look simples. Something that will fade away like the Cheshire cat.
A deep pit full of snakes if you choose to cut. But knock a load of benefits for newbies on the head, cut back all new claims with some fancy 'AI assessment' regime, some rationing - computer says no, now there is a way forward. Slow, quiet and sneaky. That's the way to do it and don't take too long about it.
Who is going to rebel, c'mon if you're hard enough. A gen election is ages away, folk will have forgotten and the Tories don't have much of a story on this.
Re Warming etc, probably something in it but I can't see the politicians doing anything about it and futile for Ed residing in a piddling country to waste much money. Not as if he has any good products to sell. Eventually a lot of humans will not get born and the rest (apart from famille Trump et al) have a miserable time, tant pis.

I'm looking forward to Russia being blamed for the Heathrow fire 🔥. What are you waiting for, Starmer?

*If* Russia *was* responsible, I'd rather they not announce it, and adopt a more "Chicago Rules" approach.
The whole Salisbury poisoning thing ought to have informed our establishment that that is just how Russia does business, and having a po-faced attempt to shame them isn't going to work, just respond in such a manner that they either think twice, or do it a lot more succinctly, next time around.
After all, their infrastructure is even worse than ours.
OT - the Conservatives in Canada seem to be in a tizz, Poilievre must deeply regret the Trump victory - having gone from a shoe-in the win the next election, to suddenly facing a resurgent Liberals actually playing the patriot cards, and playing them well.
Another one to hammer ND's popcorn supplies I think.
The pick on Canada seems odd from our point of view. Why pick on the lousy tree choppers?
But then again, bashing and (half) booting the EU, must have seemed very odd on our part, from a US perspective.
And, on an EU theme, goods from mainland Uk, into Northern Ireland, require digital customs, from 1 April.
Something we were told could either A. Not be allowed due to IRA terrorism.
B. Must occur to safeguard the EU border
Or C. Not be required ever, as N.I is part of UK.
Seeing as this sticking point brought down several Tory governments and tied up parliament for five years, you might think the imposition of customs data, on Granny’s Easter egg from London, into Belfast, might be more newsworthy. Yet it has occurred with almost zero press coverage from leavers/ Remainers/ couldn’t care lessers.
