Early Dividends from Boris Bolting

This isn't a brexit blog but one can hardly forbear just now.  IMHO there is a very early dividend from Bolting Boris: the threat of a Close(r) Run Thing will force Cameron to do even more in the next four months.  This will include holding the line against the inevitable nibbles, backtracks and 'clarifications' the Brussels elite will be plotting; it may even offer possibilities of getting a few more crumbs from their arrogant High Table.  But that's all just noise.

The real dividend will be that Letwin's Sovereignty Bill will be made as substantial as possible, short of actual UDI.  Given the EU's "concessions" aren't worth the paper they're written on (or indeed not written at all), this may be the only thing of substance we'll get out of the whole charade.  So it wants to be a good'un.  Notwithstanding Letwin is a clown, it can't be beyond the wit of man to deliver a pretty juicy Act under this heading, maybe enough to sway plenty of folks.

Game on.

The 'deal' he has got not only has no legal force, it may not even be upheld by the European parliament... and the European Court can override the measures any time it likes, and it will. Remember the social chapter opt-out? The court engaged in a little judicial activism and promptly yanked us into it.

In the final analysis he asked for nothing and got nothing. We are not sovereign and the Marxist activist judges in the European Court will continue to use their power to turn us into a yet more powerless satrapy of Brussels (or Berlin, more likely). Our influence is zero. British governments of various stripes have opposed 72 measures over the years and have never stopped a single one from taking effect.

'Recognition we will never join the Euro' - I mean really. How stupid does he think we all are? He can polish the turd as much as he likes, it is still a turd.

I am for out. If we cannot throw out the people who make the laws we are not a free people.

Of course any 'soverignity' bill will simply be judged as invalid by the ECJ

... not sure how the Germans get away with it.

Brussels, Brussels, Brussels
Out, out, out.

Or indeed, sprout, sprout, sprout.

I think I'll use that: "Are you an Out or a Sprout?"
"Be an Out, not a Sprout!" And so ad nauseam.

Excellent post Nick - as usual.

"Notwithstanding Letwin is a clown, it can't be beyond the wit of man"

I'll rephrase - if I may;-))

"Notwithstanding Letwin is a clown, and it is probably far beyond the wit of said jerk"

at Mr. Weetabix:

"In the final analysis he asked for nothing and got nothing. That's how it works - to perpetually bind us into darkness, through the illegality of fuckwit fashioned European legalese.

IN BRITAIN.

People tend to forget or, did they never know it? Why, we name Parliament as, "the legislature". Mind you, I don't really think many under ~ 30-40 years of age actually comprehend the idea of sovereignty..........FFS.

Going to be very hard for this not to be a Brexit blog mind!

Once in a lifetime chance to actually vote on something meaningful rather than tweedeldum or tweedledee.

Imagine, bar the referendum, if MIlliband was in power now absolutely nothing else would be any different!

What will Britain look like after Brexit - apart from isolated and irrelevant?

What is the new Jerusalem you are all searching for?

Bill Quango MP said...

isolated and irrelevant ?

A G7 nation. 5th largest world economy.
One of the 5fivePermanent member of the united nations security council. Largest European Nato contributor. 6th or 7th largest military power in the world. World number one financial centre.

Isolated from whom?
irrelevant to whom? Putin would not be concerned what the UK is planning?

We are leaving the EU, not the planet.

Will we be better off out? Probably not.
Will we be worse of out?
Probably not.

But at we will be free from ridiculous EU directives and poor decisions. Free to make our own ridiculous directives and poor decisions. And free to boot out anyone we feel has made too many ridiculous directives and poor decisions.

New course, to and metaphorically speaking (natch) ...... nuke the the ECJ.

However, we do not require the promised NEU Jerusalem - for the prophets of federasty have and always will bear false witness.

Norway is not free from EU directives. Switzerland is not free from EU's poor decisions. To hope that you will be free from EU regulations is nothing but wishful thinking (minus the power to influence them, of course).
And soon enough India is going to start wondering, why 1.3 billion indians are not represented on UN Security Council, and 50 million british are.
P.S. I guess that will be a perfect timing for EU to strike that trade deal with India on preferable terms, as a trade-off for a seat in Security Council.

Anonymous - Then the Indians will be hypocrites if they say they care about how well their people are represented, because they still operate the caste system and billions of them don't count.

Thud - Remaining will mean the abolition of Britain. No two ways about it.

Ever - closer - union

Forget what David Cameron has promised.

Well the way I see it. The main reason not to leave is we can't veto Turkey or Albania joining. The main reasons to leave are that we can stop foreigners nicking all the cod, start making more of our own laws and have our own foreign policy.

If we do leave (and I don't think we'll be allowed to unless the public become so overwhelmingly in favour that staying becomes untenable) we'll have to negotiate trade terms with the EU, and that will either mean joining the EFTA or something similar. Either way, I reckon we'll just have to accept free movement of people, the anal 'new approach' directives and lots of other silly regulation as part of the bargain.

I'm minded I'll vote to leave, if just to stop them nicking the cod.
